Jonah Hill’s ‘21 Jumpstreet’ adaptation to be R-Rated, “Bad Boys meets John Hughes”?

Hill shared with Complex some details of his adaptation of the popular ‘8os television show, 21 Jump Street. “We’re not even spoofing the movie. It’s not strictly comedic, either. We’re doing a full-on action movie, blowing shit up,” he told the magazine. “[Sony execs said] they were gonna let me make my kind of movie—an R-rated, insane, Bad-Boys-meets-John Hughes-type movie—and I told them the second they don’t, I’m not gonna be involved anymore.”

He sure sounds excited about the project, but something tells me this movie is close to falling into development hell. Just like his other ventures (those two screenplays he apparently wrote for Judd Apatow to produce), there seems to be lots of talk but little action taken.

Still, if he manages to get this off the ground, I could see it being pretty successful. I’ve never seen the actual show but I’d imagine with the built-in fanbase of the series coupled with Jonah’s draw it could become marginally profitable. But we’ll see…
