Jack Black in Year One

This isn’t exactly fresh content per se, though with the “success” of Land of the Lost perhaps it is time to focus our energies on the next summer comedy featuring a Frat Pack star.

Year One stars Jack Black and Michael Cera in an Apatow Production from director Harold Ramis (Ghostbusters, Knocked Up, et. al.). The comedy is a journal through Biblical stories and other touchstones from about 2000 years ago (give or take eight or nine years). Of course, as the clip shows, there is no pretense at historical accuracy - not unlike Night at the Museum. The film opens on June 19 and features a host of familiar faces including Hank Azaria, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, David Cross, Bill Hader, and Paul Rudd.

This clip first showed up on the Super Bowl and still brings giggles and fits of laughter to me even after multiple viewings. I love the sound of Jack’s arrows, and the way he doesn’t care about any arrows except the one he’s shooting. I also love Jack’s knife toss and Michael Cera’s, well, Michael Cera-style delivery of his “shelf unit” punchline.

But David Cross and Paul Rudd really steal the show in this scene. They are believable as brothers and I think we’ll be repeating “You Are Called Suck” throughout the summer. And the way this clip ends… well, I’d love to watch it again but my eyes are still wet from laughing too hard.

Are you excited by Year One? Leave a message with your thoughts.
