Lewis, Wiig, Page Highlight Barrymore’s ‘Whip It’

We haven’t seen much of Juliette Lewis for a while, so it’s great to see her playing the villian in Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut, Whip It. The movie tells the story of an Austin, TX roller derby team and focuses on a fresh seventeen-year-old named Bliss Cavendar (Ellen Page). Cavandar’s team is the Hurl Scouts (hence the outfits) and the team also includes Smashley Simpson (Barrymore) and Malice in Wonderland (Kristen Wiig).

The film was written by actual roller derby veteran Shauna Cross and is based on her novel “Derby Girl.”  The film represents Barrymore’s first feature film helming effort and is scheduled for release on October 9th from Fox Searchlight. USA Today has more info about Whip It.
