Will Ferrell and Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin have left 20th Century Fox’s Neighborhood Watch, which would have started production in Spring 2010.  The comedy would have centered on Ferrell, who discovers an alien conspiracy after joining the local neighborhood watch group.

Dobkin is the 2nd director to leave the project, following Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy, who was previously attached but took a backseat role as producer.

This marks an interesting time for Ferrell, who has several projects to carefully choose from following this summer’s Land of the Lost disaster:

  • The Other Guys (formerly titled ‘B-Team’): An action-comedy co-starring Mark Wahlberg, from Anchorman director Adam McKay
  • Sherlock Holmes: Highly-anticipated comedic adaptation with Ferrell playing Dr. Watson to Sacha Baron Cohen’s Holmes, from producer Judd Apatow. Project’s future is complicated due to this December’s action packed adaptation starring Robert Downey Jr.
  • Anchorman 2: It’s kind of a big deal. Ferrell remains committed, as do Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and Adam McKay… now if they could just find the time to actually schedule it. This one is probably on hold until 2011 or 2012.

Ferrell will next be seen in The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard, but shhhh that’s supposed to be a secret.

(Editor’s Note: thanks for comment poster Jack for the correct title change for The Other Guys/B-Team)
