‘Marc Pease’ with Stiller/Schwartzman Dumped in Ten Cities
The Marc Pease Experience has been on the radar here in Fratville for almost two years. In fact, it was one of our most highly anticipated releases… of 2008. Sadly, thanks to distribution issues the indie comedy from director Todd Louiso has sat on the shelf. But today, Louiso himself spoke with The Playlist with details about the film’s release this month.
- Good news: the film will be released in ten cities including San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, Miami, Dallas, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Seattle, Sacramento, and “maybe” Boston
- Bad news: if you live in New York or Los Angeles you can forget it. Also, don’t be getting your hopes up for a trailer, official website, advertising, or you know, the kind of things you do when you actually want people to know about your movie and come see it.
If this sounds familiar, you can go back to our archives and see how Idiocracy or The Wendell Baker Story found their way to theatres. Long delay before a one or two week run in smaller markets before coming quietly to home video shortly thereafter.
Look, we know Schwartzman is no draw at the box office but wouldn’t Ben Stiller warrant at least a little PR? Heck, when has Ben in a wig not been huge box office? Anyway, here’s the official synopsis for the film:
Schwartzman plays Marc Pease, a man 10 years out of high school and still living in the past when he was the star in his high school’s musicals. During the course of one day, as Pease’s former teacher/mentor Mr. Gribble (Stiller) oversees the opening night of another show, Pease finally exorcises his demons and realizes there’s more to life than Broadway artistry.
Thankfully, we’re here in San Francisco. So, there’s a fairly good chance we’ll get to see this next week.

Of course it couldn’t be in San Diego…
i’ve wanted to see this for the longest time now your telling me i can’t
I had vaguely heard of this movie. Looks like it’ll be a DVD purchase. I too am surprised they aren’t having Ben go around and promote this. The combination of Ben and Indy films would get awesome attention. Why do some of these studios bother with independent films if they aren’t even going to give them a chance?
Off topic, Ben’s hair looks really nice in that picture. Do I understand in your comments that’s a wig? Shame if it is, because I would actually like that “do” on him and wish he wore it more often.
