Galifianakis Joins Carell and Rudd in ‘Schmucks’

Dinner for Schmucks, starring Steve Carell and Paul Rudd, was already one of Summer 2010’s most anticipated comedies. The buzz continues to mount as The Hangover’s Zach Galifianakis joins the film’s Comedy A-List cast. According to Variety, Galifianakis will be playing “an assistant manager of a mattress store who is dating Carell’s ex-wife.”
Schmucks is scheduled to film this October for DreamWorks, during Carell’s fall hiatus from The Office, under the direction of Jay Roach (the man behind the Meet the Parents and Austin Powers franchises), currently set for release next summer.
No word on how this deal will affect Galifianakis’ other starring role in Due Date, co-starring Robert Downey Jr, from director Todd Phillips, which was supposed to film this September and set for a June 4th, 2010 release date.
In related news, Jack Black and Jason Segel’s Gulliver’s Travels, which was supposed to open the same weekend as Due Date, has now been pushed back to the more lucrative Christmas 2010 weekend.
