‘Green Hornet’ Release Pushed Back to December 2010

Some will this story as another example of bad news for Seth Rogen’s superhero reimagining, The Green Hornet. But don’t worry, this is actually much closer to good to great news for the film.
The Michel Gondry film has been pushed back from a July 2010 release to December 17, 2010, according to Box Office Mojo. Rogen confirmed the news in an interview with Hitfix.
“We’re both relieved and psyched about the change. It gives more time for post, which would have been immensely rushed if we were to come out in the summer. It also affords us more time to promote the film, (now we can go to Comic-Con with more than a car!) and ultimately is a great vote of confidence from the studio. We got the same date that movies like ‘I Am Legend’ and ‘Avatar’ are getting, so we’re thrilled to be there.”
Until this movie starts filming, it’s clear we should view any other news as less than stellar developments. However, this news still indicates that the film is on, so that’s hardly bad news. Plus, this gives the film plenty of time for post-production visual effects, word of mouth promotion, and an awareness campaign. There are usually not very many superhero films at Christmas, so perhaps The Green Hornet will appear to an untapped market and be considered “counter programming” for the prestige and family films typically release during that season.
