Casting Roundup: New Indie for Ferrell; Dern Joins ‘Fockers’
A couple of new casting developments lead this week’s headlines. First up is news that Will Ferrell will headline an independent film titled Everything Must Go. The project will be the first feature from commercial director Dan Rush, budgeted at under $10 million (less than half of what Ferrell makes for himself per film), and will begin production in March. The film follows a man who loses his job and locked out of his house by his wife, selling all his belongings that have been thrown on his front lawn.
Many of Ferrell’s critics have been hoping for more material similar to his Golden Globe-nominated performance in Stranger Than Fiction; Everything Must Go producer Marty Bowen offers some words hinting that this film might stretch Will’s acting chops:
“Will is one of the best at making an audience sympathize with a character’s ordeal, and the blending and comedy in this script will show a side of him that we haven’t really seen before.”
In other castings news, Laura Dern is the latest Hollywood name joining the ensemble cast of Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson’s sequel Little Fockers (the Hollywood Reporter also notes that title is tentative and could change.) Dern will play the headmistress of the school where Stiller’s children attend. Little Fockers is currently filming and schedule to hit screens in July 2010.

I’m trying to leave a reply with scriptshadow’s reaction to it (it’s his favorite script), but it won’t let me leave it…
