Stiller and Downey Decline Oscar Hosting Gig
Nikki Finke is reporting today that Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ Oscar telecast producers Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic approached Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. with the opportunity to host the 2010 Oscars. The Tropic Thunder stars declined, according to Finke.
Later today Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were announced as the hosts for the event.

if Ben and RDJ actually did it i probably would have watched the whole thing.
I’m actually kinda stoked for Martin & Baldwin.
Not that anyone will catch me shoving gender-equality down many people’s throats, but if they were going to double up anyway, how hard would it be to get a man and a woman? Seriously? Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn? Julia Dreyfus and Jerry Seinfeld? Tina Fey and Steve Carell? Will Arnett and Amy Poehler, keep it in the family? Wanda Sykes and Jon Stewart? Chris Rock and… I dunno, Sarah Jessica Parker? Mike Myers and Beyoncé would be good.
Or you know, if they can’t get anyone else, just get Taylor Swift and Kanye West, haha. Ratings through the roof… That would be a big bowl of awkward.
the taylor swift kanye is smart, it really would have been huge for ratings.
i’m sure martin and baldwin will do good. just not enough to peak my interest to watch the whole thing.
Tina Fey & Steve Carell would’ve been perfect. According to EW, it looks like the producers originally approached Fey about doing the show with Steve Martin, but her 30 Rock showrunner responsibilities didn’t allow it.
