One can’t help but make a comparison to Owen Wilson’s last box office success with Marley & Me with the news that actor has signed to be the voice of Marmaduke in a big-screen adaptation of the comic. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Wilson is signed to play the voice of the Great Dane in an live action/CG adaptation scheduled to hit theatres in June of 2010. The story is described as being about “a family named the Winslows who move from Kansas to Orange County with their dog Marmaduke, a slobbery pooch who creates chaos wherever he goes.”

Voice talents include Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy playing the humans, while Fergie, Emma Stone, George Lopez, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, Damon Wayans, Marlon Wayans play the animated characters. Wilson lends his voice to the upcoming The Fantastic Mr. Fox and previously in Cars and Heat Vision & Jack.

One problematic issue: unlike Garfield, Marmaduke never spoke or though anything. Why even use the name if it’s just another humans-interacting-with-talking-animals flick?

Here’s hoping that the Macy has the Hitler stache that the owner has in the comic strip.

Is the Wilson/Rudd/Witherspoon movie still coming out this year?

Rick, according to Box Office Mojo that movie is scheduled for release in December 2010. Although I had hoped it would come out THIS December, unless there is some sort of miracle it’s not going to happen. From what Reese had said in an interview they JUST stopped filming recently.
