Rudd, ‘Hangover’ Guys Make GQ Men of the Year List
Paul Rudd and the cast of The Hangover (including his Dinner for Schmucks co-star Zach Galifianakis) made this year’s GQ Men of the Year list. Rudd previously made the list in 2007, when he was listed as part of the “Apatow Mafia.” The Hangover ensemble (Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Bradley Cooper) will be one of four covers available for the December 2009 issue.
The Hangover boys get a nice interview, including a hilarious quip from Cooper: “A whole movie about the three of us? That’s so fucked up.” The three stars speak about their favorite lines, Ed Helms’s songwriting Oscar campaign and Galifianakis’s prosthetic penis from the film’s end credits.
It’s nice to see GQ on the same page as us in agreement that Rudd is having a banner year stepping out on his own, following the success of I Love You, Man and last year’s holiday season surprise hit Role Models. Though next year seems to be even more impressive (maybe Frat Pack Man of the Year 2010 impressive) by co-starring with Steve Carell in next July’s Dinner for Schmucks and December 2010’s How Do You Know with Owen Wilson.
Scans from the issue can be found at the FashionZag blog.
During the past few years, GQ’s MOTY issues have highlighted other faces familar around here including Vince Vaughn/Jennifer Aniston, Apatow & Co., Danny McBride and James Franco.
We’re just over a month away from the unveiling of our Frat Pack Man of the Year. Could the GQ issue offer any clues? Does Rudd’s breakout year compete with perrenial runner-up Vince Vaughn’s Couples Retreat box office success? In a year where Jack Black and Will Ferrell flopped, could The Hangover somehow factor in like Judd Apatow did in 2007? Could Luke Wilson… do something in the next month? Anything?

Well, Ben Stiller had a box office success with NATM2. However, I recently saw The Marc Pease Experience on DVD and if anything that film should “subtract” points from Stiller’s overall impact for 2009. Urgh.
I’m all for Rudd for Frat Pack Man of the Year for 2009.
