SNL Releases Will Ferrell & Green Day Video

When Will Ferrell hosted SNL this past May, we saw two musical performances by Green Day. What we didn’t see was a post show performance of the band’s “East Jesus Nowhere” featuring Will Ferrell on cowbell… until now. SNL recently released a web exclusive video of this off-the-wall performance.
While it’s not clear if the band was expecting Will’s appearance, the video makes it abundantly clear that the collaboration was not rehearsed, nor had Will heard the band’s new song from their 21st Century Breakdown album. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s reaction towards the end, and Will’s on-mic confusion, is alone worth your time.
Will Ferrell has previously joined Weezer (”Island in the Sun”) and Queens of the Stone Age (”Little Sister”) during their respective SNL appearances.
Earlier during the actual broadcast, the members of Green Day were among the celebrities (including Tom Hanks, Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd) in an all-star musical number about Will making up a Vietnam story to avoid paying a tip.
