‘21 Jump Street’ Gets ‘Cloudy’… Directors
Jonah Hill’s comedic take on 21 Jump Street is finally moving forward. Variety reports that Columbia Pictures is negotiating with the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller to helm the film. Hill co-wrote the screenplay and will star in the big screen version of the 1980’s television series focusing on young cops going undercover in a high school.
This will be the young duo’s first live-action feature. Having worked on Cloudy with SNL stars Bill Hader and Andy Samberg, it’s not hard to imagine they could be part of the cast, which Hill previously said, “will have some of the funniest people around.”
Jonah Hill has previously mentioned the “Bad Boys meets John Hughes” script has a cameo written for original series star Johnny Depp, whom positively responded:
If we find the right thing to do, it could be very funny. It sounds like a great idea. It’d be hilarious.
No word on when 21 Jump Street would film, but Hill’s schedule is packed as he will film The Adventurer’s Handbook with Jason Schwartzman and Jason Segel, presumably in March right after Segel wraps How I Met Your Mother for the season. Hill will also have an extensive press tour next summer for June’s Get Him to the Greek, which will probably involve a lengthy bit of overseas promotion with co-star Russell Brand.
