Luke Wilson Filming Pilot for HBO
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Luke Wilson is filming a pilot for HBO called Enlightened, starring opposite real-life mother and daughter Diane Ladd and Laura Dern. Also cast in Mike White’s single-camera pilot are Sarah Burns (I Love You, Man), Amy Hill (50 First Dates, Couples Retreat) as a regular and Charles Esten (The Office) as a recurring player. Here’s the description from THR.
The project stars Dern as Amy, a self-destructive woman who after a meltdown has a spiritual awakening and becomes determined to live an enlightened life, creating havoc at home and work. In his first regular TV gig, Wilson will play Levi, Amy’s unkempt ex-husband who has a drug problem.
Dern’s real life mom, Ladd, will play Amy’s mother, who takes in her daughter as a house guest after her crisis. Hill will play the head of human resources at Amy’s workplace. Esten will play Amy’s boss and former lover who triggers her meltdown when he has her transferred.
No word yet on when the show might air.

I think this is really good for him. Clearly HBO has a quality standard, and the names attached are impressive. If it does well, it’ll also give Luke some leverage to get more films made.
Well, even starring in a show for HBO hasn’t done much for Jason Schwartzman’s buzz (I didn’t even check out that show, whatever it was called). That said, this sounds like a more accessible concept.
@crossman it’s called bored to death and I thought it was pretty good. Made me enjoy shwartzmans role in funny people even more as I knew him from the other show, also the bearded guy from the hangover is in it galiafrankias or however you spell it
bored to death wasn’t a bad show. i like the begining a lot of a regular joe trying to be a PI. near the end it kind of got away from that quite a bit.
Right. Bored to Death. “Great” name for a show…
I’ll try to carve out some time to check this out on on-demand.
its one of the best shows around 1.office 2.entourage 3.californication 4.curb 5.(tie)bored to death weeds eastbound and down
BTD ended up on a lot year end critics list, a lot more than EB&D actually (there’s a tally over at theenvelope.com’s Emmy forum)
I don’t need to watch Bored to know that Eastbound & Down is a better show. That show was amazing.
