Wait, "newly-welcomed Frat Pack member Paul Rudd"? When did that happen? I thought his Man of the Year thing was like the Judd Apatow situation. I didn't know he was officially "in".

Well, I don't want to say sleazy, cause that's not the right word, but...a little irresponsible maybe? I mean, he's not THAT young...

I'm trying to stay positive, but I don't understand why Owen would put himself in a position to carry a movie again, which he hasn't done since Dupree (and we all know how that turned out), and a Farrelly Bros flick at that, off the back of The Heartbreak Kid, which was a pretty epic failure at the box office for Ben. Hall Pass seems to be in the same vein as THK (not gross-out, just raunchy).

The Farrelly Bros haven't had a real smash hit since...forever, and I don't see how this is going to change that tune. Owen needs a big, top-billing name next to him, someone who could give this movie some edge. Someone people can get excited about if they can't get excited about Owen. If not the other guy (Jason), then his wife: Jennifer Aniston, Tina Fey, Elizabeth Banks, Cameron Diaz, or at least someone who's not as big of a household name but funny, like Perrey Reeves or Kristen Wiig. This movie needs a strong female co-star.

Mario, ITA with your post.

As for your question about the women, according to Variety's article here http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118013363.html?categoryid=13&cs=1&ref=bd_film the women do get the same "pass".

I'm trying to stay positive here and I like Rick's thought that 2010 sounds like a serious year for Owen getting back into the swing of things with his career.

This could be good, but I'm sensing there's a fatigue with the whole irresponsible man-child thing in general (I mean, why doesn't the wife get a hall pass, what's up with that?), and with Owen playing them in particular.

Unless the script is stellar and they really come up with fresh comedy based on characters and situation, the way Hangover did, this could be another Dupree for Owen.

Given Owen's reputation as someone who likes to get around more than is deemed appropriate for a guy his age, I don't know how well this will go over with general audiences, and women in particular. I mean...is anyone else thinking the premise is a bit, I dunno, sleazy?

It wouldn't be so bad if the main character was an Ed Helms or even this Jason Sudeikis guy, because you don't think "womanizer" when you see them. That's funny. A boring geek trying to get laid as much as possible for a limited period of time. You'd buy that a wife would give a guy like that a hall pass... But to Owen? Seriously? He's just too much of a manwhore in people's minds, isn't he?

While Sudeikis wouldn't be my 1st choice to co-star (I think Owen would pair better with Bill Hader), I can see him fitting in. He's got this raspy cackle and does "smug" really well.

Btw: if this movie comes out in late 2010, Owen Wilson seems to have the strongest potential year more than anyone else.

Jason Sudeikis seems like a nice enough guy... but as we have seen Owen is better paired with someone crazy. And Sudeikis seems so... bland.

Wonder if Woody or Ben would be up for a cameo. Both have top-lined Farrelly Bros movies in the past.
