Is Kristen Wiig Set to be Apatow’s Latest Protege?

Kristen Wiig
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Judd Apatow will be producing a new wedding-themed comedy starring and written by Kristen Wiig.
Wiig wrote the comedy with Annie Mumolo and the story centers on two women who battle to plan their friend’s wedding party. The film will be directed by Paul Feig who previously worked with Apatow as a creator and writer on the Fox series Freaks and Geeks. Wiig and Mumolo will also co-produce.
Does this mean that Wiig is set to follow Steve Carell, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, and Jason Segel who have all benefited from Apatow Productions’ magic touch? It would certainly seem to be the case, as most of those guys also had a hand in crafting the material in the way Wiig apparently would, since she’s a co-writer of the film. Wiig does “adversarial” comedy quite well, so this material seems to be the right kind of theme for a Wiig’s first star-turn.
Wiig previously worked with Apatow with a small role in Knocked Up, a DVD-only cameo in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and a supporting role in Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.

If you notice, Judd is giving others a shot @ lead roles (Kristin Wiig & Aziz) while the guys he made are now producing their own stuff
This is awesome. I’m there. Kristen Wiig is the funniest woman in America, she just hasn’t been given dynamite material, and I’d be very surprised if her own writing genius didn’t showcase her best sides. Plus, Paul Feig’s great.
BTW, how come no one has talked about “Paul” on here? Or did I miss that? Directed by Mottola, written by Pegg/Frost, starring Pegg, Frost, Hader, Rogen, Bateman, Wiig, Koechner, Jane Lynch, Joe Lo Truglio…
We had a post or two about Paul. I’m sure we’ll talk about it more once there’s a trailer, etc.
I think its clear that another group of actors, like the Frat Pack has emerged.
Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Martin Starr, and James Franco.
They all do movies together, or have done Freaks and Geeks, and seem to be close friends anyway. They only need a name.
The name you are looking for is Team Apatow.
Yeah they all clearly resemble the Frat Pack in a similar way. Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and Franco are the movie heavyweights like Ferrell, Vaughn, Stiller, Black. Segel is a tv/movie actor just like Carrell. Baruchel is entertaining and duo’s well with others, like Owen or Luke do often. Martin Starr reminds me more of David Koechner how he is in almost every movie with these guys, he even had a cameo on How I Met Your Mother.
