‘Dinner for Schmucks’ Trailer Debuts

Dinner for Schmucks Poster
With Steve Carell appearing in theatres this weekend with Date Night, it’s no surprise that the trailer for his next movie Dinner for Schmucks is debuting this week. And let me tell you, this thing looks awesome!
You can view the trailer on the official website (www.DinnerForSchmucks.com) or at Apple’s Quicktime Trailers site.
In addition to Carell and Paul Rudd who topline the film, it sure looks like Zach Galifianakis has landed another scene-stealing role as a mind-reader. Also starring are Ron Livingston, Bruce Greenwood, Jemaine Clement, Stephanie Szostak, and Jeff Dunham, along with Andrea Savage (Step Brothers), Patrick Fischler (Old School), and Larry Wilmore (The Office).
The trailer is very informative, in that Rudd appears to be a sympathetic character rather than the sarcastic ass I assumed he’d be playing. And Carell definitely has turned it up a notch but in the end does appear to be “in” on the dinner. It surely looks like the dinner sequence may go down in Frat Pack history (and there have been a lot of great dinner scenes in movies like Meet the Parents, Wedding Crashers, and Talladega Nights).
Dinner for Schmucks opens on July 23rd.

Looks great, kind of an odd concept, but steve carell and ZG should make this really good
I haven’t seen the French original, and usually I’d prefer an American comedy over a French one any day of the week, but based on clips of the original I’ve seen, it looks like they really screwed it up with an apologetic, syropy tone just to placate sensitive PC palates.
To me, there’s nothing funny about the trailer. ZG hints at funny, and the supporting cast looks great on paper, but Carell and Rudd and Jay Roach… way to not bring it, guys.
This looks like a remake cooked up by too many writers who compromised all the funny out of the concept, and they had to make up for the terrible script by calling up people they could rely on to bring the funny on the day, on the spot, in the room.
Pass. I’ll catch it on DVD. Maybe.
