Luke Wilson at the Death at a Funeral premiere

A nice week for Luke Wilson on several front. First and foremost, he is appearing in theatres this week in Death at a Funeral, a remake of the British film of the same name. Wilson plays the best friend of the character played by Tracy Morgan, and also previously had a fling with the character played by Zoe Saldana. The film has seen mixed reviews so far, but nonetheless it’s nice to see Wilson in film opening in wide release.

At a smaller scale but no less noteworthy is this week’s DVD release of Tenure. As we reviewed here earlier this week, Tenure stars Wilson alongside David Koechner and Gretchen Mol and surely will satisfy any fan of Wilson’s previous cinematic work. Be sure to support this film! There are links for purchase/rental on the Official Tenure website.

Of course, if you ask the average person who Luke Wilson is these days the most likely answer is AT&T pitchman. And Wilson has received his fair share of critique in that capacity. That said, AT&T this week started rolling out a new awareness/branding campaign that to many eyes including myself borders on bizarre. So, perhaps the public will view Wilson’s good-natured everyman spots with more positive opinions.

So there you go. It’s Luke Wilson week here at the Tribute. What did you do to celebrate?

There is a very nice interview with Luke promoting the Death at a Funeral movie. He talks about no longer being boyfriend material for movies. He also sort of responds to the flack about the AT&T ads. I actually like them, but my Mom doesn’t. I just think it’s about time they come back at Verizon. Verizon dumped on AT&T for far too long. Interesting how they have shut up mostly about AT&T now that they have someone more vocal coming back at them in Luke’s commercials.
