Danny McBride Says Hola To Mexico in Season Two of ‘Eastbound’
Deadline.com is reporting that plans are coming together for the second season of HBO’s Eastbound & Down, starring Danny McBride. The first season focused on McBride’s character Kenny Powers returning to his small home town. Season two will take Powers south of the border to Mexico as he continues to stage a comeback to his ruined baseball career.
Joining the cast are Michael Pena as the owner of the Mexican team that Powers joins. Pena was last hilariously seen in Observe and Report, directed by Eastbound co-creator Jody Hill. Also appearing is season one holdover Steve Little (”Stevie”) and Nacho Libre’s Ana de la Reguera who presumably will be a love-interest for Powers. The role of Powers’ father is as of yet uncast. Production is set to start next month in Puerto Rico.
Eastbound was a 2009 highlight, and the change of venue should open up additional possibilities for storylines. It also seems unlikely that familiar season one characters played by Will Ferrel, Andrew Daly, and (sadly) Katy Mixon will return. The Kenny Powers Twitter Feed is always good for a laugh, so we’ll be looking out for Spanish-language tweets in the upcoming weeks.
