Frat Pack Go Sporting for Charity, Glory

The Frat Pack is known for comedy, but they’re big fans of sports as well. This weekend we saw two such examples.

Woody Harrelson kicked the game winning goal at a soccer match in Manchester, England. The event was a charity for UNICEF and when the game was tied after regulation, the teams turned to penalty kicks. In front of 65,000 fans, Harrelson kicked the game winner for the “Rest of the World” team to defeat England. The players included a host of retired “footballers” as well as celebrities such as Mike Myers, Gordon Ramsey, and Robbie Williams.

The event also provides what might be the best photo of the year:

Meanwhile, Paul Rudd led a team of comedians to his native Kansas for a fundraiser with the Kansas City Royals. Rudd grew up in Overland Park, KS as did Rob Riggle (Step Brothers) and Jason Sudekis (Hall Pass). The trio threw out the first pitch at Friday’s game and co-hosts for the Big Slick KC poker tournament at nearby Harrah’s Casino Saturday night. Also in attendance were Will Ferrell, Will Arnett, Adam McKay, and Horatio Sanz.

“Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis and Rob Riggle visited sick kids in the hospital in between playing a poker tournament that raised $80,000,” Children’s Mercy Hospital spokesman Michael Johnson said. “A guest star not from the area even flew in to help out.”

“It’s nice people can come out to support a charity, especially because the economy is not so good,” Ferrell said. “It’s like the last thing on your mind to give money to charity. I’m not much of a poker player. In fact, the first four hands I thought we were playing Black Jack and then someone said, ‘What are you doing? Don’t double down.”

The crew was interviewed during the game and discuss their backgrounds in Kansas, along with the charity and their careers.

Big thanks to Tipster Bill.
