After some worry that Get Him to the Greek would follow previous movies this summer and clearly and visibly underperform, the final box office numbers show a picture that could be best described as “Okay.”

Greek made $17.6 million this weekend in 2700 theatres, good enough for second place at the North American box office. The total was nearly the same as it’s predecessor Forgetting Sarah Marshall, albeit with higher ticket prices and in a season when the box office usually balloons. On a per-screen average, Greek outperformed Sarah Marshall and was actually the best in the Top 10 this weekend by a sizable margin.

The real test will be to see if word of mouth allows for modest declines in the coming weeks, similar to Date Night this spring. So, if you liked Jonah Hill and the rest of Get Him to the Greek you definitely need to tell your friends.
