If you’re not sure if Paul Rudd is currently residing on the A-list or not, you can forget all about the doubts when you hear who has been cast in his new movie, My Idiot Brother. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Rashida Jones, and Emily Mortimer have been cast. Rudd plays a man with an overbearing mother who crashes with his three sisters played by Banks, Deschanel and Mortimer.

Banks is a career-driven single about to get her big break in journalism after spending years writing about accessories at a fashion magazine; Deschanel is a bisexual whose flakiness and lies are getting in the way of moving forward with her caring, responsible girlfriend (Jones); and Mortimer plays a Park Slope mom too worried about having the perfect life and children to notice that her marriage is falling apart.

For those of you raised on the west coast, like me, Park Slope is a section of Brooklyn, NY. Filming is expected to start next month in New York, where Rudd currently resides.

I can’t say much about Mortimer, but Elizabeth Banks has been a favorite of mine since The 40 Year-Old Virgin. This would be Banks’ fifth film with Paul Rudd, after Wet Hot American Summer, The Baxter, Virgin, and Role Models.

Jones of course had great chemistry with Rudd in I Love You, Man but it’s nice to see her playing a different kind of role as Deschanel’s girlfriend. So, needless to say, we’re real excited about this film slated for release in 2011.

Rudd’s basically not leaving NY! He’s shooting this there, and Wanderlust there in the fall

I get more and more excited for this movie with every update. The director Jesse Peretz directed “The Ex” aka(the better title) “The Fast Track” which was moved around so much that it bombed at the box office. Although it did, I found the film to be very funny. It should have done way better.

This sounds good. Wonder if it will be a chick flick though…
