Jack and Owen Together Again, AGAIN?
Comingsoon.net reports that Mark Waters (Director of Mean Girls and Freaky Friday) is being eyed to direct Mr. Popper’s Penguins. But the big news is that it projects Jim Carrey, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson to star.
Here’s a brief description of Mr. Popper’s Penguins:
“The story is about Mr. Popper, a house painter whose dreams of Arctic exploration prompt him to write letters to real explorers. One of them sends him a penguin, which he keeps in the icebox. Before he knows it, the painter has a litter of 12 beaked birds. They eat voraciously, leading him to form Popper’s Performing Penguins, a stage act that goes on tour and creates mayhem at every stop. “

Don’t expect an R rated raunch-fest; this will obviously be a family film, but this is some pretty good news. For one, we get to see Jim Carrey in another Frat Pack related film. Remember, we almost got to see Jim and Ben Stiller in the now cancelled Used Guys. Jim has lost some of the “funny” over the past few years, but he was pretty good in Peyton Reed’s Yes Man. Also we might get to see Jack and Owen again together. Right now they are currently filming The Big Year, which looks promising.
None of these developments are set in stone, but this could mean that the chemistry between Owen and Jack in The Big Year could be like the Wedding Crashers’ Owen/Vince dynamic. We got a lot to look forward too.
Coming Soon’s wording might imply that Jack, Owen, and Jim are competing for the same role. But, it’s a bit ambiguous.
Yes Kevin that could definitely be correct. I do not know much about “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” but if all 3 are involved I could see on as Mr. Popper, one as a villain, and maybe one of them as a talking penguin. I don’t know. I would definitely prefer another R rated movie with these guys, but we’ll see.
I like Jim Carrey alot, he is very similar to The Frat Pack, but has seemed to make it as his own act.
