Rogen Roundup: ‘Green Hornet’ Interview, Babs/’Gilligan’ Rumors

Your Seth Rogen news roundup features some expected Comic-Con talk about Green Hornet, but also rumors of Barbra Streisand being cast as Rogen’s mother and talks of a Gilligan’s Island movie featuring Rogen and Michael Cera as the Skipper and his little buddy.

Here’s a good interview with the Green Hornet writer, producer, and star talking about the upcoming superhero action film. Rogen addresses the recently announced change to delay the film for a few weeks but also to add 3D effects to the film.

Chalk this next one up as a rumor (from the NY Post no less), but Barbra Streisand may be playing Seth Rogen’s mother in an upcoming movie. Last seen playing Ben Stiller’s mom in Meet the Fockers, Streisand would be the mom to Rogen’s inventor son. They would embark on a road-trip to reunite the mom with her old flame. The film is called My Mother’s Curse and is slated to be directed by Anne Fletcher (27 Dresses).

Depending on the material this could be interesting. People under 40 may not remember, but back in the day Streisand was a very effective comic actor, so it’s possible this could not suck. It’d be interesting to see who the old flame is (please, dear God, don’t make it Steve Martin or Alec Baldwin…).

In even stranger movie rumor news, it appears there is talk of a Gilligan’s Island movie. The headlines have Beyonce in the Ginger role but of more interest in Fratville are the two comic leads, with Michael Cera playing Gilligan and Seth Rogen playing the Skipper.

I’m quite dubious of TV show remakes (thank you very little, Land of the Lost) but I do think Rogen especially would be great in this role. I don’t know that Cera has the physicality for the Gilligan role (Jim Carrey would have been a perfect fit twenty years ago), but perhaps they can play with the expectations and characteristics of the characters in ways that made Get Smart so successful. The project is from Warner Brothers, which is a good sign.

I also agree that Michael Cera doesnt have the chops to play Gilligan. Most of Ceras roles portray him as a quiet, well educated individual and Gilligan was a loud dimwitted pain in the Skippers side. I read somewhere before that William Shatner was going to play Skipper.
    A good cast would be-
    Skipper- William Shatner
    Gilligan- Steve Carell
    Professor-Jason Segel
    Ginger- Amy Adams
    Mary Ann- Tina Fey
    Thurston- Christopher Walken
    Mrs. Howell- Betty White
But only in the wildest dreams of course…

Wow. That list is all over the map age-wise.

    Gilligan - Jay Baruchel
    Skipper - Seth Rogen
    Ginger - Elizabeth Banks
Mary Ann - Amy Adams (or Rachel McAdams or Isla Fisher)
The Professor - Paul Rudd (or Carell or Jason Bateman)
    Thurston - Cary Cole
    Mrs. Howell - Jane Lynch

After I posted that I realized Jay Baruchel would be perfect haha I guess I didnt realize how young Gilligan was he always looked about 30 or 40. I’d say yours is great especially Jason Bateman…minus Seth Rogen, I just see his sarcasm not fitting the role. The Skipper was always short tempered and not so developed in responses like Seth Rogen, I think that would be a similar role for him just like Will Ferrell in Bewitched which I didnt enjoy.

    Ooh, Alice Eve…

I love me some Mila Kunis but I don’t think she could play innocent Mary Ann. I like the idea of social inept Martin Starr as The Professor though. Nice work, Christian.
