Several news items are hitting the net following Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Comic-Con appearance this weekend. While in San Diego to promote The Green Hornet, “The Guys who brought you” Superbad and Pineapple Express also leaked information on several future projects.

‘Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse’

First up is word that Rogen and his writing/producing partner Goldberg are considering co-directing the long-in-development Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse.  The script, based on Rogen and Jay Baruchel’s 2007 YouTube hit, is about to be written, once the cast is locked in, according to Goldberg in an interview with ThePlaylist.

Rogen had the following comments on Jay and Seth for MTV News:

“Me and Evan [Goldberg] are writing it right now, actually, and it’s come a long way and it will probably be one of the next movies that we make, I would imagine. And I think me and Evan might direct it, which is a pretty big step for us.”

“It takes years to write a good movie, that’s what we’ve learned. We’re finally going to script form. Once you’re there, you’re kind of on the homestretch; it means you have the key ideas to build the movie.”

“It’s a movie about a group dynamic. We’ve been watching movies like ‘The Mist’ and stuff like that to try to make a ‘Tremors.’ We’re kind of trying to go into the horror/comedy genre a little bit.”

Goldberg also revealed to ThePlaylist that he and Rogen had completed a script for a top-secret project called Sausage Party. Without offering any plot details, he announced the project is a CG film that would star Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and voiceover actor Conrad Vernon (the Gingerbread Man in the Shrek films.) Kung-Fu Panda director Mark Osborne is also involved. Rogen and Goldberg are currently shopping the script around to studios. While the title sounds like a joke, Goldberg maintains that it is the actual name of the film.  Considering the last time Rogen, Goldberg and Hill collaborated gave us Superbad, it’s not hard to imagine this could be an adult-orientated animated film.  Then again, Rogen and Hill have been frequent voiceover actors in recent animated films, so they very well could surprise us. It sounds like we’ll find out in the coming weeks.

In yet another interview with ThePlaylist Goldberg also revealed that his screenwriting collaboration with Jay Baruchel, Goon, was finally scheduled to begin filming soon in Canada. When Baruchel first teased about the project in June 2009, we learned it was a hockey comedy whose cast was being assembled. This weekend, Goldberg stated that Role ModelsSeann William Scott would co-star with Baruchel. Goldberg additionally announced that Goon would be directed by Michael Dowse, the filmmaker being the metalhead mockumental FUBAR and techno DJ spoof It’s All Gone Pete Tong.

Back in March, Baruchel had the following words to hype this project:

“We like to think of it as a funnier ‘Raging Bull.’ It’s real mean, and it’s truthful, and it’s everything hockey is without any of the bullsh*t sports movie clichés, and it is dead funny. Lot of swears, that’s a hard R. It’s a very crass movie, there are something like 20 fights in it, but it’s the badass movie that hockey fans have been waiting to see their whole lives. It will be by far the best hockey movie since ‘Slapshot.’ Hockey fans have needed one for a long time, it’s a sport that movies never do well. Ours will be a f*cking movement.”

One interesting turn of events comes from Goldberg’s annoucement of Scott’s involvement. This past Spring, Kevin Smith had begun writing his own “Forrest Gump of sports movies,” a hockey dramedy called Hit Somebody which was scheduled to star… Seann William Scott.
