‘Dinner for Schmucks’ Meets Box Office Expectations

Dinner for Schmucks Poster
After being delayed a week to retool the marketing (and, if rumors are to be believed, perhaps the film itself), Dinner for Schmucks opened at #2 at the North American box office this weekend. The film earned $23.5m and had the highest per-screen average in the top 20. The film is about on par with recent Steve Carell films, and a bit higher than Paul Rudd’s recent R-rated films.
So, there’s a big sigh of relief that the film didn’t bomb, despite a storyline described by some as “mean.” But, things aren’t going to get any easier this coming weekend as The Other Guys seems well-positioned to be a crowd pleaser for all ages.
Nonetheless, after an abysmal summer for the Frat Pack and Team Apatow last summer, it’s nice to see a better reception this year.
