Jack Black Promotes Mobile Phones, ‘Gulliver’

Jack Black

Does this make Luke Wilson a trendsetter?  The Frat Pack star received a lot of heat for his ads for AT&T, but now Jack Black is also getting into the mobile advertising game with this ad promoting UK carrier Orange as well as his upcoming holiday movie Gulliver’s Travels.

The ad plays off the film’s signature moment, but has some funny jokes and definitely feels like “Jack Black-style comedy.”  And while this nominally under the “Don’t let a mobile phone ruin your movie” tagline, that message is not hit very hard. It feels much more like an Orange brand awareness ad (and, let’s face facts, a Gulliver’s Travels brand awareness ad…).

What do you think? Synergy or Sell-out?

Orange does this on a regular basis. Their promotion is very much tied in with cinema here in the UK (they probably co-finance the movies they choose to do these ads with). The last one I saw was the A-Team. They also have an ongoing 2for1 cinema ticket offer for their customers.
