No stranger to the Saturday Night Live stage, several articles are reporting Amy Poehler as the opening night host.  This is her first time as host since ending her seven season run in 2008.  SNL will be beginning it’s 36th season on September 25.  Musical guest for the night will be “California Gurls” singer Katy Perry.

Various sites are also reporting that long-time cast member and MacGruber star Will Forte will be leaving.  Also not returning to the show after her first season is Jenny Slate.  To help fill the void, four feature players, Vanessa Bayer, Paul Brittain, Taran Killam, and Jay Pharaoh, will be making their debuts.

I wonder if Katy Perry performing means Russell Brand might cameo. I could see him popping up during Weekend Update.

I believe Brand has been filming Arthur in NYC so it’s definitely a possibility. I predict we’ll see him sitting in the audience during Perry’s performance.
