The comparisons to Ed Helms’ breakout film role in The Hangover are certain to be made but I don’t care a bit because the trailer for the Fox Searchlight comedy Cedar Rapids looks amazing. The film also stars John C. Reilly who is obviously given lots of room to stretch and go crazy. The film is showing at Sundance prior to a theatrical release on February 11.

The film is directed by Miguel Arteta (Youth in Revolt) and also stars Sigourney Weaver, Anne Heche, Stephen Root, Kurtwood Smith, Alia Shawkat, Mike O’Malley, Rob Corddry, and Seth Morris.

To call insurance agent Tim Lippe (Ed Helms), “naive” is a gross understatement. He’s never left his small hometown. He’s never stayed at a hotel. And he’s never experienced anything like Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sent to represent his company at the annual insurance convention, Tim is soon distracted by three convention veterans (John C. Reilly, Anne Heche and Isiah Whitlock Jr.) who will show him the ropes and push his boundaries. For a guy who plays everything by the book, this convention will be anything but conventional.

Here’s the trailer:

There’s pretty effective poster for the film available as well.

I happen to have loved Reilly’s performance in the indie comedy The Promotion a couple years ago, and he was outstanding in Cyrus last year. So, Reilly has a great track record and this new project seems like the streak will continue. Arteta did bring some nice energy to Youth in Revolt, which itself is definitely worth seeing.

After being able to barely control myself yesterday with the trailer for Your Highness, I might have to give serious consideration for Cedar Rapids topping my “most anticipated of 2011″ list.

Helms and JCR feel like the perfect combination here.

It looks kind of like the disappointing The Promotion, but this film was on the blacklisted list a year or two back so I am really excited, plus John C. Reilly and Ed Helms!

Forgot to mention that Arteta directed The Good Girl, another film where JCR did great work (opposite Frat Pack It-Girl, Jennifer Aniston).

Really excited for this…love Helms and JCR. Rob Corddry is great too. And Alia Shawkat from Arrested Development…always nice to see a Bluth getting work!

However, as a huge fan of the Wire….Senator Clay Davis calling out Omar is amazing! SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT
