Is ‘Green Hornet’ Actually Becoming Buzzworthy?

Looks like those Carl’s Jr. ads are doing the trick, but according to several sources the film is scoring high with the target audience. Entertainment Weekly had a big article this week saying that the “word of mouth on The Green Hornet is strangely positive.”

The Seth Rogen action-comedy is opening this Friday in 3D, after previously been delayed from a planned Christmas release. The delay was said to help get the film’s 3D effects finished, and some accounts figured this was more likely to “get out of the way” from holiday 3D releases such as Tron: Legacy and Gulliver’s Travels. Turns out the new timeline may give the film the kind of spotlight the filmmakers were hoping for all along.

According to EW:

According to the Los Angeles Times, the film scored a 93 percent favorablitity rating at a fall test screening in Long Beach, Calif., with 83 percent of the audience ticking off the box that said they would “definitely recommend.” More recent tracking numbers for the film are also unexpectedly strong: 23 percent of boys under 16 said it was on the top of their must-see list, while 19 percent of young men over 16 said they planned to see it.

A pre-Christmas report from The Hollywood Reporter was similarly glowing when it came to discussing the buzz for Hornet.

Directed by Michel Gondry and starring Seth Rogen, Green Hornet opens nationwide Jan. 14. But January films don’t usually pop up on tracking until after Christmas films have cleared.

Sony insiders say that while the film is drawing support across the board, teen boys debuted with a 23 first choice and young men, 19. Those are high numbers, and usually associated with summer event titles, according to the studio. Of course, tracking is never a guarantee that sustained interest will translate to strong box office. A lot can change in the next three weeks.

That said, Sony says Green Hornet also is screening well.

Best of all, the release of The Dilemma on Friday seems to be doing very little to effect moviegoers ability to attend Green Hornet. This is true, even for us here in Fratville. Don’t get me wrong, I love Vince Vaughn and I am definitely interested in The Dilemma. But Hornet is certainly more of a draw.

I agree, this is more of a draw for me than The Dilemma. I’m hopeful the reviews will turn out positive.

Didn’t like the trailers, hated the Carls Jr commercials, but the film’s actual commercials are very badass. The tv ad campaign is ramping up the cool factor, toning down the “Seth”-heavy tone of the original trailer, and is building up my interest very quickly. The last minute dash to the finish line has been handled very well.

I’ve seen the film, I really loved it, but the girl I was with hated it. It’s going to be a mixed feeling kind of thing.

I gotta say I didn’t see this coming, I haven’t watched the film, but apparently it’s good. Don’t get me wrong, I love Seth Rogen, but come on, a semi serious superhero film?

I saw this film in December at a prescreening and honestly, it was much better than I expected and I highly recommend it!
