Danny McBride, star and co-creator of HBO’s Eastbound & Down laffer, confirmed at Paleyfest that the upcoming third season will the last for the unusual single-camera comedy series.
“We’ve always imagined this thing as something that we would keep short and not give it a chance to kind of get old,” he explains. “We have really approached each season as if it was just an act of a larger story, and so the third season to us has always been the climax of the story.”
McBride and co-creator Jody Hill (Observe and Report) gave hints during press for 2010’s season two that the series would not go on forever, treating each season like a a movie that is shown in 30 minute segments. But, McBride left a tiny bit of daylight, not quite indicating that the third season would wrap the series. When asked if the third season would bring the series to a close, McBride said ”Probably. Yeah, I think so.”
In other Eastbound news, McBride confirmed that Season one stars Katy Mixon and John Hawkes would be returning for the third season, after the season two cliffhanger that showed Mixon’s character pregnant with a baby assumed to be fathered by McBride’s character, Kenny Powers.
