Jonah Hill in Moneyball

Moneyball is based on the best-selling book of the same name, and tells the story of General Manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) of the Oakland A’s during the early part of the 2000s.  He is aided by Ivy Leaguer Peter Brand (a composite character played by Jonah Hill), as the two men take a completely new and different approach to building a winning baseball team. The film is directed by Capote helmer Bennet Miller and is written by Oscar-winners Aaron Sorkin and Steven Zallian. Also starring in the film are Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright, Stephen Bishop, Kathyrn Morris and Chris Pratt. Moneyball is scheduled for release in September.

The film’s trailer debuted today, and I’ve got to say that this looks great. It’s a perfect role for Jonah Hill to break out of his comedic ghetto, and with the award winning talent behind the film who knows what we’ll see come Oscar time. As a Bay Area resident, I’ll say that the baseball stuff in Oakland certainly looks authentic too.

Based on a true story, Moneyball is a movie for anybody who has ever dreamed of taking on the system. Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland A’s and the guy who assembles the team, who has an epiphany: all of baseball’s conventional wisdom is wrong. Forced to reinvent his team on a tight budget, Beane will have to outsmart the richer clubs. The onetime jock teams with Ivy League grad Peter Brand (Jonah Hill) in an unlikely partnership, recruiting bargain players that the scouts call flawed, but all of whom have an ability to get on base, score runs, and win games. It’s more than baseball, it’s a revolution – one that challenges old school traditions and puts Beane in the crosshairs of those who say he’s tearing out the heart and soul of the game.

No, it’s his less famous brother, John. This is not only his first acting job, but his first job of any kind, having lived off the fat (no pun intended) of his more famous brother’s land for six years now, more specifically on said brother’s futon, in said brother’s garage.

Headline corrected. Getting old and dyslexic sucks.

Actually, I thought it was John Hill who was starring in 21 Jump Street. No way Jonah was able to lose all that weight so quickly. Has to be his brother.

  4. [...] However, the article states Hill’s salary may be a sticking point in the deal. Apparently the trailer for Hill’s upcoming Brad Pitt drama Moneyball is testing through the roof, so his reps must [...]
