The Girls of Summer: Bridemaids

Just like Midnight in Paris is about to be Woody Allen’s biggest box office hit, Judd Apatow has reached his own personal milestone. In its 7th week of release, Bridesmaids has topped Knocked Up’s $148.7 million and Talladega Nights‘ $148.2 million to become the biggest hit from producer Judd Apatow. Almost two months after its debut, the film dubbed “The Female Hangover” has shown steady box office longevity not seen for a comedy since… well, The Hangover.

Apatow and director Paul Feig are already quiet drafting an off-color romantic comedy for Bridesmaids‘ scenestealers Melissa McCarthy and Jon Hamm. The next film plans for Bridesmaids headliner Kristen Wiig have yet to be announced, though she is expected to return for her seventh season on Saturday Night Live this September.

Apatow Productions’ next release will be October’s Wanderlust with Paul Rudd, Jennifer Aniston and her rumored lover Justin Theroux. Production is currently underway on the Apatow-produced Five Year Engagement with Jason Segel, while Judd begins filming the Knocked Up spin-off possibly titled This is Forty with Rudd and Leslie Mann.

Yeah, I thought it would cross that mark by Tuesday or Wednesday. Kinda jumped the gun a little early

I didn’t think the movie was that funny, it was good just not that funny. The other Apatow movies are funnier and better in my opinion. Oh and it’s nothing like the Hangover, it just makes a mockery of it.

It’s been out fornearly 2 months & is still in the Top 10 at the Box Office. That is amazing!! I think that it is a very funny movie: 10/10.

I loved Bridesmaids, but I agree with James that there are way funnier Apatow films.

My list above. I have a real fondness for Kicking and Year One, though I know that they’re not great films. PERHAPS Bridesmaids would move up on repeat viewing. Paul and Chris, shame on you for not ranking Walk Hard higher. :-)
