Jason Bateman

Jason Bateman is red hot this summer (”The Summer of Bateman“, remember?), with Horrible Bosses doing big business and The Change-Up getting great buzz. What’s next? How about a Paul Rudd-style leap to headlining a new comedy from Dodgeball director Rawson Marshall Thurber.

According to Pajiba, Bateman is set to star in We’re the Millers, a story about a low-level drug dealer who must go to Mexico to smuggle 1400 pounds of marijuana into the U.S. using a fake family. It’s high concept but clearly not your family-friendly comedy. Will Arnett was previously attached to star, but it looks like Jason Bateman is set to play the lead role as a sort of dry straight-man with crazy people all around him.

The film would also mark a return to form for Thurber, who hasn’t done much since his breakthrough writing-directing gig on Dodgeball back in 2004. As a writer, he did contribute to Tower Heist, coming this fall with Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, and others.
