‘The Muppets’ Opens with Segel and Adams (and Stiller/Black Cameos?)

Jason Segel and Amy Adams from The Muppets

The long-held dream of Jason Segel to revive the Muppets franchise finally comes to ultimate fruition today, as The Muppets opens in theatres nationwide. The PG rated film mixes the traditional slapstick humor and music long held by the franchise, along with some edgier themes (but, still, it isn’t like Segel is going full-frontal like he did in his last film featuring puppets). The film costars Amy Adams, who has done effective work bringing some adult sensibilities to family-oriented films including Enchanted and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. Nick Stoller, who directed Segel in Forgetting Sarah Marshall cowrote the film with Segel.

The Muppet films were always heavy on celebrity cameos, and the new film seems to be no exception. There are even rumors of cameos by Jack Black and Ben Stiller (which would sort of qualify The Muppets as a “Frat Pack film”). Now, that might be “spoiler” info for some of you, for others (like me) it just might be the thing that pushes you over the top to go and see the film.

If you’ve seen The Muppets, leave some comments below.

Stiller’s not in it, Black actually plays a pretty prominent role

Segel looks like he lost a lot of weight in that picture

Pretty good movie. I’d give it a B. It kind of drags at parts and it wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be. If you have kids, check it out.
