Ben Stiller was honored with the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy at the BAFTA Los Angeles 2011 Britannia Awards on Wednesday. Other BAFTA honoreers included Helena Bonham Carter (British Artist of the Year), David Yates (John Schlesinger Award for Excellence in Directing), John Lasseter (Albert R. Broccoli Award for Worldwide Contribution to Filmed Entertainment), and Warren Beatty (Stanley Kubrick Award for Excellence in Film).

Stiller told ET that “It’s important to get and give awards and to strive to win awards. I feel as long as people are giving awards or getting awards, for human interaction, it just helps people. It helps the people that are giving the awards feel good that they’ve done something for someone else so it’s kind of a mutual ego-gratification.”

The award ceremony will be broadcast on the TV Guide Network on Sunday December 4 at 8 pm. There is a clip available on the TV Guide Network’s Facebook site. There’s also report on Stiller’s speech, including what sounds like a hilarious introduction by Robert Downey, Jr. (read the report on HitFix - very spoilery).
