Will Ferrell is Armando Alvarez

Will Ferrell
An interesting promotional approach is being taken with Will Ferrell’s upcoming Spanish-language comedy Casa De Mi Padre. “Who is Armando Alvarez” is the tagline that we’re okay spoiling as this project has been on our radar here in Fratville for some time. In fact, there was a teaser trailer that we showed you back in April. The film will have a (new?) teaser trailer out soon but you can go to the Facebook page today to learn more. The film is slated for release on March 16, 2012.
Synopsis:
Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father’s ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando’s younger brother Raul (Diego Luna) shows up with his new fiancée, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul’s success as an international businessman means the ranch’s troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul’s business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal).
It’s great to see Ferrell trying some different kinds of material, and clearly the box office analysis for a project such as this will be kept modest. Ferrell has the much more mainstream comedy (recently renamed) Dog Fight coming out in August 2012, opposite Zach Galifianakis. That film is helmed by Jay Roach (Meet the Parents) also stars Jason Sudeikis and John Lithgow.
