A week before its release, a new red-band trailer for Jason Segel’s The Five-Year Engagement has hit the web. The tone set by the new clips show more of a traditional Team Apatow sense of humor than the first version that debuted months earlier.

The film had its premiere this past week at the Tribeca Film Festival, and early reviews have been positive, calling it a worth successor Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

The Five-Year Engagement, from director Nicholas Stoller (Get Him to the Greek, Forgetting Sarah Marshall), opens in theaters Friday, April 27th.

Saw it Friday in a special pre-screening with Nicholas Stoller in the audience (he actually sat 3 rows in front of me). A lot of the jokes in this trailer are not even in the film. The films has some pretty good laughs, but its kind of a mess when it tries to mix comedy with drama. Sometimes the film is too serious and sometimes when they try to fit in a joke, it doesn’t land. Segel is okay and Blunt is about the same, but Chris Pratt and Allison Brie make the movie worth seeing. Oh and comedian Brian Posehn has some good screen-time and brings a lot of the a laughs. Overall I’d call this Stoller’s weakest film, its pretty much a mess, but it has some laugh out loud moments. 7/10.

I continue to be underwhelmed by the trailers for this film. And for a red-band trailer this is pretty tame.

Thanks for the comments, John. It’s a low bar when Chris Pratt is a highlight.
