New ‘Identity Thief’ Poster Lacks Emotion, or Originality
A new poster was revealed for the upcoming Jason Bateman/Melissa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief. The poster continues to focus on the lead characters, but does so in a way that lacks emotion, comic flare, or originality.
Compare the new poster with the old one:
If you think you’ve see the intense eyes of Jason Bateman before, look no further than the character campaign for last summer’s raunchy hit, Horrible Bosses.
The new poster isn’t terrible, it’s just so… familiar. I guess the marketing team did alright with Horrible Bosses, so who am I to say. I just thought that the original Identity Thief poster showed a side of Bateman we’re not so familiar with. And if they wanted to show how the character’s life is upended by the ID thief then maybe something more akin to Jason Sudeikis’ look might have worked better.
Identity Thief is directed by Seth Gordon and costars Amanda Peet, John Cho, Jon Favreau, Genesis Rodriguez, Eric Stonestreet, Robert Patrick, Ben Falcone and Clark Duke. The film is scheduled for release on February 8.
