Jack Black to be Roasted by Friar’s Club in 2013
The Friar’s Club has announced that Jack Black will be the subject of their next roast on April 5, 2013 in New York City.
Announcing Jack Black as the recipient of this year’s coveted “Roast”, Friars Club Abbot Jerry Lewis said they expect to have lots of fun with Jack Black: “We only roast the ones we love and with Jack, we love his comedy we love his music and we love his enormous talent. It’s going to be a great day for all of us! We are all big fans of Jack and being Roasted by the Friars in an honor he richly deserves! I wouldn’t miss this event for the world nor will his peers!”
Friars Club Executive Director Michael Gyure praised him as one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors and comedians. “We could not be more pleased to have Jack Black as our Guest of Honor for our next Roast. He is loved by movie and concert goers of every generation, and he is an excellent and deserving recipient of this revered tradition.”
When asked about the roast Black quipped, “What did I get myself into this time? I’m searching for a loophole in my contract, maybe there’s a way I can weasel myself out of this thing. Those bastards are going to brutalize me, but Jerry Lewis assured me it’s going to be the highlight of my career, so I guess I got to go through with it.”
No word yet on who will be among the celebs to roast the Bernie star, but the press release mentions Black’s work in Tenacious D, so would seem strange if Kyle Gass is absent. Likewise, given Black’s recent appearance to fete Ben Stiller it would be shocking to see him missing, especially since Stiller has New York roots. The Friar’s members include Tom Cruise, Jon Stewart, Jimmy Fallon, Rosario Dawson, and Samuel L. Jackson.
