Will Ferrell to Receive Comedic Genius Award at MTV Movie Awards
Will Ferrell will be the first recipient the Comedic Genius Award at the MTV Movie Awards, the network announced today. Ferrell was chosen as the inaugural recipient and will receive the award during this year’s telecast that airs live on Sunday, April 14. Ferrell previously won an MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss (with Sacha Baron Cohen in 2007, for Talladega Nights). This year’s nominees will be announced on March 5 and the show will be hosted by Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect).
This award is one more step towards the release of the Anchorman sequel at Christmas this year. MTV management even got into the Ron Burgundy act. “Will Ferrell epitomizes what it means to be a comedic genius and it’s only fitting that he should be the inaugural recipient of this award,” said Stephen Friedman, President of MTV. “Over the course of his extraordinary, 17-plus-year career, he has entertained audiences across the globe with an impressive array of laugh-out-loud performances on air, online and in films. Simply put, Will Ferrell is ‘kind of a big deal.’ “
