‘The Hangover Part III’ Trailer Sets a Dark Mood
The teaser trailer for Todd Phillips‘ highlight anticipated sequel The Hangover Part III debuted today. The trailer is well-edited and while there are not a ton of laughs there is most definitely a dark tone that I think sets the proper mood for what fans of the series are sure to be excited for. The use of Wolfmother’s “Apple Tree” certainly seems to be a perfect musical choice. The film’s funniest and most “jokey” moment is actually quite, quite dark. Especially for fans of animals with long necks.
The familiar cast led by Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis are featured and as usual their “best friend” Doug is basically nowhere to be seen. Ken Jeong is returning as Mr. Chow, as evidenced by the teaser poster that riffs on the final Harry Potter film’s poster. John Goodman is briefly seen in what surely is a larger role akin to Paul Giamatti’s in Part II. And there’s a cameo from Melissa McCarthy as well.
While there are no specific details of the plot, it does thankfully appear this isn’t a “we’ve lost our memory and need to put together the pieces to find our friend” plot which was fresh in Part I and oh-so-tired in Part II. In addition to Vegas, Tijuana is another setting for the film.
This time, there’s no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off.
“The Hangover Part III” reunites Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha as Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug. Also returning to the ensemble are Ken Jeong as Mr. Chow, Heather Graham as Jade, and Jeffrey Tambor as Alan’s father, Sid. Joining the starring cast is John Goodman.
Phillips directs from a screenplay he wrote with Craig Mazin, who also collaborated with him on the screenplay for “The Hangover Part II.”
