James Franco Honored with Hollywood Star
James Franco was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, beginning what might be a banner year for the eclectic actor. Timed with the release of Franco’s starring role in Oz: the Great and Powerful, Franco brought his mother to the ceremony. The actor also has plum role in the definitely not-for-kids Spring Breakers on March 22, playing a gangster. Franco has a number of upcoming releases this year including The Iceman with Michael Shannon and Winona Ryder, Lovelace (where he will play Hugh Hefner), and the film adaptation of Child of God.
Franco’s Pineapple Express costar Seth Rogen was on hand for the ceremony and he definitely came with some funny material. Rogen’s remarks included a reference to the gigantic box office for Oz, commenting “It’s nice being on Hollywood Blvd. Honestly, if you look around not everyone is doing as well as us so we can all be cheritable this afternoon. Maybe we should go across the street and see Jack the Giant Killer (sic).”
Rogen later commented on his longtime friendship with Franco noting “I’ve known Franco since I was 16 years old and it’s nice to see he’s done so well. He’s really a great actor. A lot better than most people think, because for all the stuff he’s done that is amazing, the one thing people realize - I’ve never actually smoked weed with this person. It’s disappointing to hear, but it’s actually true. I shouldn’t tell people that, it’s sad almost.” The two actors met on the set of the TV series Freaks and Geeks and are costarring again in this summer’s apocalyptic comedy The End of the World.
Franco later posted a photo on his Instagram account showing him with an Oz doll and enjoying the moment with his star.
