Jim Carrey released a satirical look at gun rights with his Funny or Die video “Cold Dead Hand.” The Burt Wonderstone actor pulls out a couple of celebrity impressions including the late actor Charlton Heston who was the President and spokesperson for the National Rifle Association for many years. Heston was famously quoted as saying he would never surrender his guns and the only way to pry them away was to do so from his “cold, dead hands.” Heston died in 2008.

The clip features Carrey with the Eels as “Lonesome Earl And The Clutterbusters,” a country band on a TV show inspired by the classic variety show Hee Haw. The song is also available on iTunes.

What do you think of the clip? To me this is probably better as satire than comedy, and many of the references (even about Heston) are probably not familiar to younger viewers. But it’s nice to see Carrey stand up for what he believes in and to do so in an entertaining fashion.
