Aubrey Plaza Crashers Will Ferrell’s Comedic Genius Award at MTV Movie Awards
Will Ferrell was the honorary Comedic Genius Award at last night’s MTV Movie Awards. The award was presented by Ferrell’s Elf costar Peter Dinklage and serves to keep Ferrell in the public eye with highly anticipated Anchorman sequel coming at Christmas. Ferrell accepted the award in an outrageous Dolla Bilz suit, and thanked his “family.” As per the usual format, Ferrell made jokes during the acceptance speech, rather than delivering a heartfelt thank you.
Notable during the speech was a Kanye-style interruption by Aubrey Plaza (Funny People, Parks and Recreation). The actress briefly tried to take Ferrell’s award before he asked “What’s happening? Are you okay?” while keeping a tight grip on the award. Plaza then returned to her seat where cameras caught the hashtag #The To-Do List” written on her upper chest. The indie comedy The To-Do List starring Plaza opens this summer. According to Deadline, Plaza was later escorted from the premises.
Ferrell was clearly agitated and quipped “Aubrey Plaza, everyone. Just like we rehearsed it. Perfect, it was perfect. Not too long, not too short. Right on the money.” Asked about the incident later, Ferrell said ”I think she wanted to tell me something important. It was just a lot of hot liquor breath and sweat. Then she ran away.” Plaza was seen on stage carrying a drink and may have been intoxicated.
