Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn in The Internship

Can’t tell if Fox thinks this is a way to get some great word of mouth, or a way to get one showing of the film before reviews arrive. In any case, Fox will be screening a single showing of the Owen Wilson / Vince Vaughn comedy The Internship tonight in 3000 theaters. Shows should start between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm, local time. So, if you’re looking to be the first on your block to see this anticipated comedy, here’s your chance. There’s a highly anticipated cameo worth seeking out early as well.

The last-minute movie is so unusual the typically savvy Nikki Finke was even perplexed. The Deadline article quotes an insider as saying “Word of mouth screenings have been phenomenal and preview screenings have scored unbelievably. Better than tracking would suggest. Thus the sneaks.”  There may be another round of sneaks on Monday in celebration of National Intern Appreciation Day.

The Internship will open wide next Friday, June 7. The Shawn Levy film stands an even better chance of a good reception at the box office after grosses for The Hangover Part III disappointed. A PG-13 rating may draw in a broader demographic, yet for most fans we prefer Vince Vaughn with R-rated dialogue (one of the things I really liked about The Watch last summer).

Synopsis:

Billy (Vaughn) and Nick (Wilson) are salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital world. Trying to prove they are not obsolete, they defy the odds by talking their way into a coveted internship at Google, along with a battalion of brilliant college students. But, gaining entrance to this utopia is only half the battle. Now they must compete with a group of the nation’s most elite, tech-savvy geniuses to prove that necessity really is the mother of re-invention.

The Internship was VERY funny. Very good ensemble and lots of great, charming material that wasn’t shown in commercials. I’ll have a review up later but this was earsily 4/5 stars. Great chemistry with Wilson and Vaughn.

Will Ferrell was funny in early cameo. Also another cameo from a Frat Pack friend

Seen it twice and it is very funny. This is all due to the chemistry between Wilson and Vaughn. The film is pretty paint by numbers, but it has enough laughs to keep you going. Yet by the end you feel the 2 hour runtime. I’d give it a solid B.
