Remember back in 2011 when a film based on a book was made with an acclaimed but pretty actor who starred as a creative but somewhat misunderstood genius, who had a quirky odd looking sidekick played by Jonah Hill? In 2011 that film starred Brad Pitt and was called Moneyball, but in 2013 the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and is called The Wolf of Wall Street. The trailer for the film debuted today.

Based on memoir by Jordan Belfort, the film is directed by Martin Scorsese and also stars Jon Favreau, Matthew McConaughey, Jean Dujardin, Rob Reiner, Kyle Chandler, and Margot Robbie (who I really dug in Pan Am). The film looks fantastic but in the trailer it sure seems less serious than typical Oscar-fare.

I would say this is very close in tone and theme to Goodfellas, but on Wall Street. People maybe forget how funny that movie is, but it was nominated for a bunch of Oscars (Joe Pesci won). So I definitely feel it could be in the running for awards.
