Bad Teacher was a breakout hit in 2011, surprisingly making $100m at the box office and showing that Cameron Diaz can still make us laugh with the right material. The film also starred Justin Timberlake and Lucy Punch (playing crazy for a second year in a row, after Dinner for Schmucks). Maybe the best part of the film was the surprisingly effective supporting performance by Jason Segel as a zen-like gym teacher.

A 13 episode TV series spinoff starring Ari Graynor (For a Good Time Call…) for CBS is coming next season but Sony announced they are moving forward with a theatrical sequel starring Cameron Diaz and bringing back director Jake Kasdan (Walk Hard). No word on the nature of the storyline or if any others will be returning from the first film, though Diaz and Segel are already working again with Kasdan on Sex Tape for release in 2014.

Diaz is still in negotiations for the sequel but made a boatload of cash on the first film because she took a low salary against points on the backend. The film made more than $200m worldwide, beating out Horrible Bosses and 21 Jump Street as far as worldwide grosses go. So, plenty of backend for Diaz to play with…

Diaz is currently filming The Other Woman.

I don’t understand, TV show, sequel? This was horrible… It reminded me of Bad Santa, main character going around saying really off color things and the it just falls completely flat, the people they are bashing don’t even react. Lame. Stop with the comedy sequels, this was the worst one
