The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

If you’ve thought that Ben Stiller might have been “coasting” the last couple years with the tepidly-viewed films The Watch and Tower Heist, be prepared to have your mind blown by the trailer for the upcoming The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. The film has been in development for more than a decade and given Stiller’s record as a star/director this film demands attention by all Frat Pack fans. The film also stars Kristen Wiig, Adam Scott, Kathryn Hahn, Shirley MacLaine and Sean Penn. The film will be released on Christmas day.

The buzz by industry insiders is building for the film, which surely includes Oscar talk. Its been called “Ben Stiller’s Forrest Gump” as well. This film certainly appears to continue Stiller’s journey as a director towards making more complicated and sophisticated films. Walter Mitty is a remake of a 1947 film starring Danny Kaye. In both cases, the source material is based on a short story of the same name by James Thurber.

Meanwhile, Wiig is certain to be everywhere in December, thanks to a plumb appearance in that other “highly anticipated” holiday film called Anchorman 2. And it’s nice to see Scott playing “mean” after several years of nice-guy roles.

Synopsis

Ben Stiller directs and stars in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, James Thurber’s classic story of a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker (Kristen Wiig) are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.

Was not expecting much when I heard about the project, but wow this trailer was incredible. Hopefully it lives up to it. I’m not too worried as every movie Stiller has directed I enjoy.

I’ve watched this trailer so many times in the past couple days. I’m surprised at how this is turning out. Very thrilled for Stiller stepping up his filmmaker game.
