Seth Rogen as Dwight Schrute? Kathryn Hahn at Pam? Shocking Footage from ‘The Office’ Auditions

This might be worth every penny you pay for the The Office Season 9 Blu-Ray or DVD. Among the extras are cast auditions that took place in 2003. Today, footage from that extra was released on Entertainment Weekly’s website. Among the gems:

  • Seth Rogen as Dwight Schrute

    Seth Rogen as Dwight Schrute

    Seth Rogen as Dwight Schrute

  • Bob Odenkirk as Michael Scott  (Odenkirk played a character similar to Michael Scott in the season 9 episode “Moving On”)
  • Eric Stonestreet at Kevin
  • Kathryn Hahn as Pam Beesley
  • John Cho as Jim Halpert
  • Adam Scott at Jim Halpert

The lovable Rogen most certainly appears to be miscast as the arrogant Dwight. I think Hahn was also miscast as Pam but would have made a great Angela. Scott seems to be right on the money as Jim.

What do you guys think of this footage?

I love Seth in almost everything (that isn’t titled Green Hornet), but thank goodness Rainn Wilson ended up playing Dwight. I couldn’t see Seth’s character working at all. But Rainn as Dwight is basically as iconic of a role as Kramer & Barney Fife.

Eric Stonestreet as Kevin could’ve worked. Adam Scott would’ve made a great Jim.

I think they went for the right people for the show they wanted, or ended up making, but I think Scott, Hahn, and Odenkirk would have made for a funnier show. Definitely more cynical. I’d have watched that show. That show probably only would have lasted a season or two, but I could never get into the show that was.
